P90 (Revamp of Power 90) is Launching September 23rd!

What’s a Good Program for Beginners? P90!

For those of you who didn’t already read previous post from us about P90 or know about it already, it’s a revamp or relaunch of Tony Horton’s first program “Power 90” that eventually launched the successful P90X franchise.  Much like with the Star Wars movies, where they went back and gave you the previous 3 movies after movies 4, 5 and 6 were out….here comes P90.  The workout before P90X, P90X2 and P90X3.


Now, some of you know, Power 90 is what we started with.  P90X was too intimidating and I felt Power 90 was a good start for me, well this is the same deal.  P90 is for those of you who need a entry level workout that could take you into a P90X or P90X3 (not P90X2, it’s a graduate program to P90X).

Breakdown of the Schedule

So they basically took the Power 90 outline and expanded it, but yet kept it the same.  Power 90 was set up for you to rotate between 2 dvds for 30 days (Sweat 1 and Sculpt 1 both 30 min) and then in month 2 you would graduate to the next dvd (Sweat 2 and Sculpt 2, both a little longer versions of the month 1).  They both also had an abs workout that you would do on the Sweat days.

So what they’ve done now is take that model and expand it and I’m glad they did, it needed it.  They basically have made it a 90 Day program (like P90X) but for beginners or for people who need a less intense workout.  

There’s 2 schedules to follow, one is cardio based and one is sculpt based.  Sweat schedule has you doing the cardio workouts 3 times a week, where the Sculpt schedule has you doing the resistance workouts 3 times a week.  Then you have a cool ending to your week with the Saturday Special workout.

So month 1 you do Sweat A and Sculpt A, month 2 you do Sweat B and Sculpt B, and month 3 you do Sweat C and Sculpt C.  This I’m glad to see, because after 30 days, you’re going to be ready to move on to something new.  I found that to be true for me when we did Power 90.  There are 4 additional workouts that you can buy (Speed Sculpt, Speed Sweat, Speed Abs and Horton’s Greatest Hits) on a bonus dvd.  I’m not sure what the exact price of the bonus dvd is, but feel free to check with me or click the shop tab on this site and you’ll be able to check out all the options.  Based off what we’ve seen in the past, it’ll probably be $59.95.  That’s been the pattern on the bonus dvd’s with the previous X workouts.


Like with all the programs, Beachbody did an amazing job with the nutrition guide in the sense that they kept it simple.  It’s about a 1,200 daily calorie intake, has some amazing ideas for snacks and it tells you when to eat and make it work for you.  It uses Michi’s Ladder (you’ll get that with the program) and an easy portion control system, which is genius and is about as simple as it gets when it comes to what to eat and what not to eat….so freakin’ basic and simple.  Don’t worry, we got your back on this if you need it.

P90 Info Coming

P90 About to Launch!

As I write this, I’m on a plane to Scottsdale AZ for the annual Beachbody Leadership Event, where this time, P90 will be one of the highlights of discussion.

This program is near and dear to my heart.  It’s what launched Alisha’s and my fitness journeys.  Albeit, it was me who needed it the most, P90 (formerly Power 90) was the program that I went with in order to “build up” to P90X.  It’s funny, P90 is what most people call P90X, “Oh, I got that P90!” or “PX90”.  Now the confusion will just be even that much worse, but never the less, the program is and will always be a great program.

Who’s It For?

Honestly, anyone.  I know we’ve been saying that a lot, with T25 and 21 Day Fix, but it is true.  I see this as yet another option for those people who have a lot of weight to lose and are intimidated by the thought of working out.  I know because that was me almost 7 years ago.

If you’re someone who just wants something that’s not as intense and more of a “casual” approach to working out, meaning, it’s a starting place or a re-starting place for you, then I would say it’s for you.  

I also see this as a great program for people like my dad, who at the age of 63, is realizing he needs to stay active, you know the saying “A body in motion, stays in motion”.  That’s him.  He needs this.  You may need this.

Again, we’ll find out more details this week and actually workout with Tony and see what the new workouts are like, so I may come back and add more categories to this list.
